Description

Have no fear! May's ridiculously simple color theory tutorial is here! no really though, I finally realized that it's impossible to explain color theory without a visual, so I'm just gonna start redirecting people here This is the way in which I view color theory ... as a couple simple rules that make the whole process of choosing colors easy. Basically, it's like a shortcut to thinking once you get the hang of it, and it makes your art eons better too |D

This is the all-important intro, so make sure to read this and then head over to part two for application time. And remember that this is realllllly basic, and if you want to learn more about color you should look into some extra reading material ... or try to bug the snot out of me until I make another one. I'm basically just synthesizing information that I've read from millions of other tutorials and a textbook XD

And if you're wondering what the stars mean, they're further elaborations I couldn't fit on the tutorial, so they're listed below:

1. I made a quick guide on variations in color. You can check it out here ... it's always helpful to know how many options you have when it comes to picking shades! B) [link]
2. There are other ways to pair fuchsia in a color palette, but mint green is the color you should use if you're using it as a red-green complementary pair.
3. Just in case you didn't "see what I did thar," what I did is a cool way to make colors gel even better in your work. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE; YOU CAN DO THIS WITH ANY COMPLEMENTARY PAIR. First, I chose a basic complementary pair (in this case, purple and yellow), and then for my first example added some red into the purple and green into the yellow which is super easy to do. When you go to choose your color on the color picker, just slide the hue changer somewhere between the color you're using and the color you want this color to look more like. So for a purplish-red, I just started in purple and slid the bar a tad further down into the red range. I'll show you where the hue changer is in my color picker tutorial! [link] This technique is really great because if you want to introduce red and green (a very slightly purple red and yellow green, in this case), it's really easy because those colors are already reflected in the purple and yellow complementary pair you're using.

I love tutorials that make you face-palm because it's so obvious but I've been stupid for my whole life. This is probably the most simplistic, awesome, super-helpful tutorial EVAR!
